The UFU Aviation Branch represents Australia's aviation firefighters across 28 airports. Their website needed to run campaigns, serve members, and stay easy to update — this is how it was rebuilt to do all three.
Visit the live siteThe United Firefighters Union of Australia — Aviation Branch represents over 950 professional aviation firefighters delivering Aviation Rescue and Firefighting Services at 28 airports across every Australian state and territory, plus Norfolk Island. The branch has been representing aviation firefighters since 1974 and runs active national campaigns on firefighting capability, health exposure, and workplace safety.

The branch had an outdated site that was hard to update and didn't reflect the work the union actually does. Campaign material, enterprise agreement documents, WHS notices, and member resources all needed a home — but the old structure made publishing slow and finding things slower. For a branch running live national campaigns, the website was a bottleneck instead of a tool.
A union website has demands most business sites don't: content that splits between public advocacy and member-only material, officers who need to publish quickly without touching code, document libraries that grow every month, and governance material that has to stay accessible and current.
A structured home for the branch's advocacy work, with campaigns organised by status — from priority national campaigns through to monitored and archived issues. Dedicated campaign pages hold media releases, submissions, and resources, and update feeds populate automatically when new material is published.
Members can track enterprise bargaining progress, download current agreements, and access health and safety notices, committee agendas, and HSR resources — organised so the newest material is always in front.
A clear split between public advocacy and member-only material. Internal updates, situation reports, committee minutes, and peer support resources sit behind member access, while campaigns and public notices stay open.
Branch officials publish updates themselves — one post, tagged correctly, and every relevant feed on the site updates automatically. A written posting guide keeps the process consistent no matter who is publishing.
The site works alongside the branch's existing systems — membership records, email campaigns, surveys, and document storage — rather than forcing anything to be replaced.
The branch now runs its national campaigns through its own website — media releases, Senate submissions, and member updates published same-day by the officers themselves. The site carries a priority campaign front and centre, feeds members the latest EA and WHS material without anyone maintaining lists by hand, and presents the branch the way a 50-year-old national union deserves to be presented.
The measure that matters: publishing an update takes one post. No developer, no waiting, no broken layouts. The structure does the rest.
"He took an outdated site and turned it into something cleaner, more functional, and more user-friendly. The whole process was straightforward and the end result better reflects our organisation."
